Pubs and Bars
Newcastle is packed with city centre bars and pubs which cater for every kind of event and mood. Whether its for a fancy dress birthday or an all day sesh in the sun, Newcastle has it all!
The city can be divided up into several key areas, all of which have their own 'unique charms':
Central Station - Here you'll find a huge range of upmarket bars mixed with some of the best hidden gems the city has to offer.
Quayside - It's young, loud and in your face. A great place to really admire Newcastle with the bridges lit up or even to cool down in the breeze during the notorious Newcastle 'summer'. The bars and pubs here range from standard party fayre to a selection of Newcastle's most distinguished venues.
Jesmond - Jesmond is young, sociable, fashionable and rather less frantic than either the Quayside or Bigg Market. The majority of students choose to live here in second and third year. Look out for the Newcastle celebrities having dinner or a few quiet drinks in the evening!
The Bigg Market - If you're after noise, excitement and a cheap cheesy night out then the Bigg Market should hit the spot. The most infamous area of Newcastle boasts not only inexpensive bars but also many restaurants and takeaways, open well after the bars have closed - an essential stop-off for any student!! However, the Bigg Market on a Saturday night is not really the place for any student!
City Centre - Slap bang in the middle of town, you can find any variety of watering holes from pile-em-high-sell-em-cheap trebles bars to classier bars where you may have to consider selling your possessions for a round of cocktails! The variety makes Newcastle ideal for a night out or otherwise just catching the match on a Sunday afternoon.
Pink Triangle - Situated close to the Central Station, this is a well established and thriving gay-friendly scene, with several pubs, clubs and bars within a short walk of each other.
Ouseburn Valley - Perhaps one of Newcastle's best kept secrets, the Ouseburn is home to some of the city's coolest pubs.
